You will recall I mentioned about the pilot for Animal Kingdom here. Now we have an update that the series has been picked up. Although John Wells is directing, both David and Liz Watts are still involved as producers. From The Hollywood Reporter :
“TNT is moving ahead with dramas Animal Kingdom and Good Behavior.
The Turner-owned cable network announced Thursday that it has picked up both pilots to series. Both 10-episode projects are expected to debut in 2016; formal premiere dates have not yet been determined Animal Kingdom is a family crime-drama set in a gritty surf community that brings John Wells (Southland) back to TNT. The Warner Horizon Television/John Wells Productions drama hails from Wells, Jonathan Lisco, Andrew Stearn, David Michod (the Animal Kingdom feature) and Liz Watts. Wells will direct the pilot from a script by Lisco. The project is inspired by the 2010 pic produced by Watts and written and directed by Michod and originally developed for Showtime in 2011. Ellen Barkin, Scott Speedman and Shawn Hatosy topline the cast. The pickup gives Wells two dramas on cable, with Animal Kingdomjoining Showtime veteran Shameless.”
Porchlight Films tweeted that the show is expected in June 2016. Really curious to see how this will translate to a TV show and as much as I love Ellen Barkin she really has big shoes to fill. Scott Speedman though … yeah I’ll be watching.
